Thresholds
This anthology was dreamed up and brought into being by the McSway Poetry Collective. We wanted to create something lasting: a collection that would showcase the voices and visions of our community beyond the fleeting pace of the academic year. As Mcsway’s first anthology of this kind, Thresholds is both a beginning and an offering. We hope it sets the stage for future generations of writers and artists to gather, create, and leave something of themselves behind.
The Anthology
1
Echoes
Echoes holds the pieces that look backward, toward memory, inheritance, loss, and what remains.
2
Intimacies
Intimacies gathers work concerned with the space between self and other: love, longing, desire, distance, and connection.
3
Emergence
Emergence turns toward transformation, movement, and becoming; the moments when we step, however uncertainly, into the next version of our lives.
What happens when separate lives meet briefly in one place?
Across a diversity of ages, backgrounds, cultures, and identities, Thresholds' contributors offer work shaped by memory, intimacy, grief, transformation, departure, and return. Organised into three sections, Echoes, Intimacies, and Emergence, the anthology explores the many thresholds we encounter throughout our lives. Each piece offers a distinct voice and a distinct lived experience. Yet through intentional curation, a photograph beside someone's prose, a poem beside a stranger's story, they speak to one another anyway.
Thresholds is a celebration of artistic community, and the solace and unity we find through art, especially during times of change.
We often think of change as something in motion, like the flow of water. This anthology instead seeks to capture the people, experiences, and moments that shape us, preserving them together within these pages. Every threshold is personal, but together, they form one story of what it means to be on the brink.
