Adriano Cavaliere - I met an angel on Peel street

I met an angel on Peel Street.
She kissed my lips and sang,
“I’ll give you three wishes.” Not asking,
Three wishes, my lips rang:
I wish I were somewhere basking
Before beautiful things,
There, where the sun, caught by my eyes,
Makes of them opal rings.
I wish I were changing myself
For some greater purpose;
Like Orlando, finding glory, wise
Where the truth may burn us.
I wish I were told not to quit
When I showed the nurse my brain—
For I, like a sparrow, flit and hid
When the waves came to claim.
