Margaret Irvine. winter is come

what is winter

but autumn before it bleeds?

a body without scabs nor head,

skin that blinds you with its

youth?

and what is (what is?) winter but

 summer’s heat confined to boxes

unburdened by the vastness of the

sky, never afraid of getting lost?

and what is winter (winter?)

but a dry, dry spring,

water in crystals

watching the sun rise and fall

a few inches

too far away

to crush it into mere droplets?
