Monuments of Grief

ephemeral morning when I’m still young

& untouched by the hostile things

foreign bodies feel nearest to home

becoming monuments of grief

fingerbones breaking from the hold of astonishment

every single star alight beneath the skin

never enough to forgive the scars

light-play reveals the weight carried

wounds winged with wishful thinking

of yielding dysmorphia, yet remains never-ending

only gentleness shaping the creature

of my body into something I could love
